In our lives we see the sun rising and the
sun setting every day. Thus the years roll on. Half of life is spent in sleep
and the remaining is not enjoyed peacefully. In the childhood a person is
engrossed in play; in youth in wooing desires; in the later days old age
enfeebles the body and one is always suffering from ailments.
To be born and to grow strong in body; to
breathe and to have a prolonged life; is this the only purpose of living?
Childhood, youth and old age are the
stages through which everybody goes; but how naturally they come and go is not
understood by anybody.
The goal of human life is only to reach
God; otherwise what is the difference between humans and animals?
Although so sinful, perishable and
short-lived is the human body, it is only through this that the abode of purity
of God can be reached. The cycle of birth and death is continuous. Even the
very idea of death is extremely horrifying. This life will pass away without
any inkling. Who has kept a count, day and night, of those who are born and who
die?
In case of such short-lived human life,
the time which is spent in reading the scriptures and listening to the stories of
God is fruitful, while the time spent otherwise is a waste. This should be the
firm conviction in our minds. But nobody believes in it till one can experience
this oneself. But to experience this, one has to make a deep study. Then the
soul which seeks permanent happiness will enjoy that wealth.
Hemadpant reiterated this truth in Sri Sai Satcharita as follows:
Light houses are constructed at various places in the sea, to enable the boatmen to avoid rocks and dangers, and make them sail safely. Sai Baba’s stories serve a similar purpose in the ocean of worldly existence.
Baba’s stories surpass nectar in sweetness, and make our worldly path smooth and easy to traverse.
When Sai’ stories enter our hearts through the ears, the body - consciousness or egoism and the sense of duality vanish; and when they are stored in the heart, doubts fly out to all sides, pride of the body will fall, and wisdom will be stored in abundance.
Repetition of the name “Sai” will burn
away all the sins of Kali-Yuga. Once having prostrated, past sins born of speech and hearing will be
destroyed.
The minds of the listeners will be
absorbed in God.
The mind will be a store of divine energy
and full of faith.
Sai’s teachings will eliminate the ego and
bestow knowledge.
The description of Baba’s pure fame, and the hearing of the same, with
love, will destroy the sins of the devotee and, therefore, this is the simple
Sadhana for attaining salvation.
So Sai Bandhus, let us make Sai’s teachings as Beacon – Guiding light
for our journey in the ocean of life.
The listening and singing of the Sai’s stories will remove the attachment to the senses and their objects, and will make the devotees dispassionate, and will ultimately lead them to self-realization.

OM SRI SAI RAM!
