The
scriptures tell us that the soul is eternal but how is this useful to us in
daily life. What is it for us knowing this truth? Lord Krishna reiterates that we
should let go the grief and he talks about how to avoid this so called grief in
life. If we want gain inner strength, first we have to know who we are. The
grief and sorrow come from the fact that we are always engulfed in “Me &
mine”.
The
fundamental difference that separates us as human beings from other living
beings is the basic understanding about ourselves. Because of this capability
to understand ourselves, we can gain the ultimate knowledge. We need to
separate ourselves from this body- mind and identify ourselves as the eternal
soul. But this is very difficult in real life. Once there is some pain and
suffering in either body or mind, the reality kicks in. The self- realized
souls are beyond this body- mind business. How can we understand this truth as
an ordinary person?
The
Lord talks about this in the following verse.
Na Tvevaaham jaatu naasam na tvam neme
Janadhipah!
Na chaiva na bhavishyamah sarve vayamatah
param!!
You,
I and these kings were there all the time. There was no time that we were all
not present. Even in the future we exist and we are present at all times. The
soul is eternal even after the body ceases to exist.
The
Lord says, we were there prior to this life in this body and in a similar way we
will exist in another body after this life also.
How
can we correlate this truth in our daily life?
We
get absorbed in different problems in everyday life. We are there when the
problem starts and we exist even after resolution of the issue. Some of the
problems throw us off balance. We feel like we are in deep hole and we are
helpless. Is this true that we cannot solve this so called problem? We faced so
many difficult situations in our lives and we have to question ourselves in these
situations. Whatever the problem could be, our reaction is always the similar. We
become slaves to our emotions. If we carefully think through we can understand
the reality of life.
It
is understandable that all living beings are afraid to lose their identity and
the do not want to die. But death Is inevitable. No body lives forever in this
body.
The
Lord in Bhagavad Gita says;
Dehinosmin yadha dehe koumaram yavanam jarrah!
Tadha dehaantara praptih dhirasthatra na
muhyati !!
As
humans, our body goes through young age, the adulthood and old age and later the
life goes into another body. The learned will not be delusional about this
fact.
