Some of the experiences in our lives are beyond words. The words are not enough to describe some of the materialistic experiences. If these experiences are beyond this mind, body and ego, then silence is the best expression. Unless we experience the same, we can not even fathom the depth of that knowledge. To understand the sweetness of a sweet and to express the feelings of love is difficult to express in words. God's grace is at an entirely different level. Everyone has to feel this, otherwise this cannot be expressed. Baba is one of those great Gurus who will let you learn everything through experience only but not just through words.
The world we see is not permanent and this will disappear in course of time. In a similar way the mind and its perception of objects is not comparable to being in the present. This means being in your original state that is "Consciousness". The way we can extract butter from the milk, we can be in our original state by self analysis. For this we need the grace of Guru. This grace will eliminate the ignorance so that we realize our original self. This is our inherent nature that's why it is beyond the mind and words.
Once Nana Chandorkar bowed to Baba and requested him to explain about consciousness. He asked What is Consciousness? How is this expressed and where is this? How can we experience this?
Baba with graceful looks started imparting this knowledge to Nana.
"What is the basis for this universe; what is existing in all living and non- living creation and is still left over; what is the life force? which is the foundation of the universe is the pure consciousness. In what, the universe again merges at the end of it, all is pure consciousness. What is visible to our eye in the entire universe is that Brahman. The pure consciousness shines without interruption in all in the form of, "I am ", "I am". This is a constant experience of all living beings.
You asked me where the pure consciousness is. You tell me where it is not. You may search everywhere in this universe and outside it; you will never find a place where it is not. Everything is pure consciousness. It has no name and no form. As the air is beyond shape or form or color or other attributes so is pure consciousness. That is pure consciousness or Brahman. Never forget this truth. The saints who have realized themselves are always in the direct experience of the Brahman. The various animal life, plant life and humanity are all its forms. The seer, the seen, the look, the knowledge, the energy - pure consciousness is the basis or the foundation for all this. It is omnipresent. It is pure bliss. It is the true knowledge. The form of that pure consciousness is Brahman."
This consciousness is beyond the mind and speech. We cannot express this incredible experience of "Being in the Self". We use "Om Sri Manovagatitaaya namah" in our prayer to worship God. This experience is beyond these sense organs and can not be visualized through these eyes of flesh. Our great Gurus tried to express so that we can at least comprehend to walk towards this path.
We sing in Shirdi Sai Arathi as follows.
Bhawadhwaanta vidhwamsa maarthaanda meeddyam
Manovaagateetam munir dhyaana gamyam
Jagadvyapakam nirmalam nirgunam twam
Namaameeswaram sadgururm Sainaatham
He is the sun who banishes the darkness of ignorance and the one who transcends all thought and speech. He is the goal of the meditations and the moorings of the mystics. He pervades the whole universe and is pure and unalloyed without any relative attributes. I bow down to Sri Sainath, who is the Supreme Lord and the Master of Creation.
This verse is in Sri Sainatha Mahima Stothram and we sing this in both afternoon arathi and evening arathi. Here also we praised Sai as who transcends beyond thought and speech. Baba not only fulfills the wishes of materialistic needs but also makes us walk the path of Self-Realization. This human form of life cannot be attained that easily so we cannot waste what we got. We have to understand the goal of life and have to realize the Self like there is no tomorrow. Then only there is meaning to our so called existence.
OM SRI SAIRAM!
