In human life, the guru's place is pre-eminent. By keeping utmost faith in Guru alone, everything is obtained.
A devotee's entire strength is due to his guru. Devotion to the guru is superior to devotion to gods and goddesses.
The guru is the supreme being.

Bhagavadgita Sankya Yogam-2.9- Focused Mind

After explaining about the Self Bhagavan preached Karma Yoga. We have to learn to convert every action into Karma Yoga. This is called "Nishkama karma yoga". Once we start there is no loss of effort and no harm, Even a little of this knowledge, even a little practice of this yoga, protects one from fear.

What is Karma Yoga?
Actions based on our scriptures are called as Karmas. Nishkaama Karma is an action which is performed with a selfless mind, without greed, without selfish desire and without anger. This what Lord describes as "My action".

We can assume that performing selfless action is next to impossible. That's why Gita is teaching us next about Nishkaama Karma.

 Vyavasaayaatmika buddhirekheha kurunandana!
Bhausaaka hyanantascha Buddhayo'vyavasaayinam!!

Arjuna! in this yoga of self less action, the intellect is determinate and directed singly towards one ideal; whereas the intellect of the undecided (ignorant men moved by desires) wanders in all directions after innumerable aims.

They used word "Bahusaakha" which means a tree has multiple branches with leaves and the mind also wanders after all kinds of worldly things. Whatever we do we need focus and concentration. Equality and balance are essential in our intellect. Whenever there is balance that buddhi is called Vyavasayaatmika Buddhi.  If we wanted to work hard we will show this kind of mindset. We all have the focused and single pointed mind but do we really use this all the time? If we want these random thoughts disappear from our mind, we need to fill more of Godly thoughts. Bhagavan is not asking us to completely quit doing routine things, but just discard the interest towards the unnecessary objects around us. We may feel everything that we come across as important and essential. But in reality how much are they important?

How do we get single point focus and what we have to leave behind?

Ignorant men mainly focus on worldly desires and their minds are filled with these thoughts. Bhagavadgita uses a word "Vedavaadarata" which means people who like flowery speeches, taking pleasure in eulogising words of the Vedas. These people are with full of desires, having heaven as their goal and prescribe various specific actions for the attainment of pleasure and Lordship. They attract people not only with flowery speeches but also with different kinds of rituals, yagnas and vratas. The Lord Sri krishna warns against those kind of Gurus. He is not saying these actions are bad but just that we get lost in the process. We won't be able to go deeper in the path of meditation. The Lord says that those lustful people tossed by their desires shall never discover any experience of tranquility in their inner life.

When we want do meditation, we are bombarded by so many thoughts and we have to understand that we did not get the actual principle of self realization. We should only think to the extent that we need to get by routine things in life. We have to let them go otherwise they accumulate like garbage.

Th Lord says,
Traigunya - vishaya veda nistraigunya bhavaarjuna!
Nirdvandvo nitya satva niryogakshema aatmavaan!!

The vedas deal with three attributes (satva, Raja and Tamo gunas) and we have to above these three attributes. O Arjuna! free yourself, from the pairs of opposites, and ever remain in Satva (goodness), freed from all thoughts of acquisition and preservation and be established in Self.

In this verse, The Lord says, we need to be in Satva. This is not just being good but staying with God is being in real Satva. If we perform our actions through Karma Yoga then we need not worry about our well being. Yoga means to acquire and Kshema means all efforts to preserve the acquired. We cannot run after karmas that are of selfish in nature. We have to understand the three attributes that we talked earlier. We have to take a multi prong approach that is Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga. This is the best way to Self Realization.

OM SRI SAI RAM!
