Bhagavan is trying to awaken us by teaching Karma yoga and now he is talking about why all the living beings do their actions. He is also focusing on why it is hard to change one's own nature.
Sadrusam chestathe swasyaah prakruteh jnaanavaanapi !
Prkrutim yaanthi bhutaani nigrahah kim karishyati !! 3.33
Living beings follow their own nature; even a wise man acts in accordance with is own nature. what can restraint do?
Our thoughts are usually expressed as our conversations. The actions that we perform will depend upon our thought process. Our actions are mostly based on our experiences from the past lives or this life. That's why we have likes and dislikes even from the birth it self. This is why it is hard to make any one to work against their will. All the beings work according to their own nature. Poisonous creatures like a snake or scorpion will try to sting you when they feel threatened. They can not change their nature. But a human being can change their nature if they want to. If we decide not to change, no one can change us.
The wise men appears to be functioning in this world as normal people, but their actions are not bound by the Karma. They will perform their actions for the good of the society. They will never have feeling that they are the doers. That's why they are never bound by their actions.
We always want to change the people around us or the circumstances according to our convenience. Sometimes we will advise people based on our thinking. If they do not listen to us or change the way we want, we become upset. This sometimes can cause sorrow.
Let us focus on certain traits and characters that we all go through.
We are bound to action all the time and these actions are based on our likes and dislikes.
We do all kinds of karmas (good, bad, neutral) and they create impressions. These impressions determine our actions.
We have to realize that no will change because of these impressions. They will change only when it is time to change. If we feel that someone changed because of us, we are just fooling ourselves.
The external environment in which a person lives is determined by his past impressions. This includes his or her physical and mental body.
Some times we can not change our environment but we can change how we respond to it. This can give us enormous peace.
We can not go back and change what we did in the past but we can learn to good deeds now. We can follow the teachings of our great teachers and scriptures. By doing this we can walk towards God. If we keep doing this, one day we will be blessed. This will lead us to hear the truth behind our scriptures. This truth will remove the bondage that we are in. Then we will experience the ultimate happiness that is liberation from this birth and death cycle.
OM SRI SAI RAM!
