In human life, the guru's place is pre-eminent. By keeping utmost faith in Guru alone, everything is obtained.
A devotee's entire strength is due to his guru. Devotion to the guru is superior to devotion to gods and goddesses.
The guru is the supreme being.

Sri Saisatcharita chapter - 22

Sai Sadguru is the cloud of happiness, the Incarnation of Supreme Knowledge and Holiest of the Holies. Hail to thee the Remover of the Fears of this world and the Destroyer of the sins of Kaliyug by burning them. We need to pray to Baba like this. Baba! Nothing else pleases me than your darshan. I feel that I should keep your form in front of my eyes all the time, and meditate on it. You are the incarnation of pure knowledge. To achieve the goal of happiness, there is no other path to us than to be at your feet. Baba’s posture is in such a way so that we have easy access to his feet. His left index and middle fingers hold the right foot with his legs crossed. The fingers form a V shape and the nail of the big toe is close to his thumb. This shines like a moon on the second day. This is to tell us that to be most humble before everyone, concentrate on the toe and this is a very easy way of devotion.

In this chapter we can learn how much Baba cared for his devotees and how he cautioned them to protect from life threatening situations. One such story is about Kaka Saheb Mirikar who was a Mamlatdar of Kopergaon. A large group of people along with Syama were sitting there in Dwarakamai. Then Baba asked Mirikar “Oh, this is our Dwarkamayi. Do you know it? ”This is our Dwarakamai! When sitting in the lap of the Masjid, she safeguards the children and there will never be any question of worrying. This Masjidmai is very kind. She is the Mother of all the innocent and faithful devotees. Anyone may face any difficulty, she will readily protect. Once a person settles in her lap, all his difficulties are solved. He who lies in her shadow, he will be on the throne of happiness. This is that Dwarka, Dwaravati! ” Then Baba gave him udi and kept his protective hand on his head, after which Mirikar got up to leave. Baba again thought of putting a question to Mirikar: “Do you know the long ‘bava’ (serpent)? And it’s mysterious powers? ” Then he closed his fist and took his left arm near the elbow of his right arm, and holding it moved it around and said: “He is terrible like this! But what can he do to us? We are Dwarkamai’s offspring’s. Nobody can comprehend her activities. Just quietly watch her wonders. When Dwarkamayi is there to protect, how can the long ‘bava’ dare to attack? The strength of the attacker is not comparable to that of the savior? How can it be explained! ”

Mirikar did not understand Baba’s words, prostrated and asked his permission to leave. While he was leaving Baba asked Syama to accompany him as Mirikar is about to leave to another place. Mirikar initially did not want Syama to come along with him but later agrees to take him. They go to a place called Chithali and decided to stay at Maruthi temple that night. While he was reading newspaper, a worker observes a snake crawling from his body and it goes down without causing any harm. Then Mirikar realizes what Baba told him to be careful about a snake. His eyes filled with devotion and love towards Baba.

Baba Protecting Butti:

Once Butti was told by Nana Saheb Dengle, an astrologer that he is going to have some calamity and to be careful. Then Butti became restless and worried. Later on, the whole group went to the Masjid at the usual time. Bapusaheb, Nana and all others went along and sat with Baba. Immediately Baba asked Butti: “Well what does this Nana say?

Does he predict your death? You have nothing to fear”.  In the evening, Bapusaheb went outside to the toilet to ease himself; and, in the toilet there came a snake, at that time. Looking at that terrible creature, Bapusaheb came out and called his servant. By the time he went to get a stick the snake drifted into hole nearby. The incidence reminded him of Baba’s words and how Baba protected him.

By making the devotees undergo such and similar experiences, he has attracted the hearts of his devotees; and to describe them in words, it would be always inadequate. Here is another such story and this time it is about a devotee by name Amir Shakkar. He was a broker by occupation and he is from Butcher caste. He was suffering from Rheumatic arthritis in his limbs. He was going through extreme pain and could not even walk properly. He went to Shirdi and bowed down to Baba for help. Baba asked him to live in Chavadi where lepers and other diseased persons live. He lived there for 9 months and his joints became very stiff. Sai’s darshan every day worked for him as medicine. But he became confined and left to a dharmasala in Kopergaon. He gives a fakir some water to drink who was thirsty. Then the fakir dies after drinking the water. He got scared thinking that there will be an enquiry for his death and they will blame him. He leaves that place and prays to Baba to protect him. He felt terrible for not listening to Baba. Then somehow he comes back to Shirdi. One day he was sleeping near Chavadi and all of a sudden Baba started yelling and hitting ground with his Satka. Then everyone woke up. Then Abdul came with a lamp and they found a snake near the pillow of Amir Shakkar. The calamity was averted. Then Amir realized how Baba protected him. After a while all his pains were alleviated and he felt better with his Arthritis.

Finally Hemadpanth talks about how Baba protected him on two occasions. Once from a scorpion sitting on his shoulder and other time from a snake at Kaka Saheb’s place.

Baba said God lives in all organisms and all creatures. He helped his devotees all the time.

Sri Sainaatharpanamasthu!
