In human life, the guru's place is pre-eminent. By keeping utmost faith in Guru alone, everything is obtained.
A devotee's entire strength is due to his guru. Devotion to the guru is superior to devotion to gods and goddesses.
The guru is the supreme being.

Bhagavadgita 4.2 - Jnaana Yoga - Veetaraaga Baya Krodha.

We need to have intense passion to know God and we have to search for the truth within us. We have to delve deeper into the depths of our mind. This is only possible when we are with still mind and stay pure. Then only we can even think of reaching to the level of great people. When we make an effort to understand the qualities and divinity of God, we will develop some kind of devotion. When this feeling gets intense there develops unconditional love towards God. There will be less distraction from worldly objects. We all know that our mind is so fluid and we get stuck with certain situations in our life.  Bhagavan gives a path to reach him in the next verse.

Veeta Raaga Baya Krodhaa manmaya maamupaasritah!

Bahavo jnaanatapasaa putaa madbhaavamaagataah!!

Whoever is freed from attachment, fear and anger, and absorbed in me, taking refuge in me, purified by the fire of knowledge, many have attained My being.

Bhagavan talks about how we need to be in spiritual path and how we can reach him. But there are obstacles during this process. The scriptures of Yoga Saastra talk about 5 main obstacles and they are called Kleshaas.

1. Avidya
2. Asmita
3. Raaga
4. Dwesha
5. Abhinivesa

We are all bound by these 5 kleshaas.  Klesha means suffering, distress and these are hindrances to our goal.

Avidya means misunderstanding the reality. Ignorance of the truth that exists. Teh wisdom that brings the truth to light is called as correct knowledge. This is the main source of all our problems.

Asmita means thinking about relations and objects as ours. This is nothing but the feeling of Me & Mine. We all exhibit Asmita in the form of Pride. From this feeling come attachment that is Raaga. When ever we cross the limits with this attachment, we will go into Dwesha (Dislike & hatred). Here the core problem is "inability to let go off things". This will lead to Abhinivesa. Abhinivesa means fear of death, fear of leaving every thing and fear of leaving behind what belongs to you. This is a false sense of identity. If we can understand this Abhinivesa properly, half of the problems are over.

Bhagavan also used a term "Manmaya" which means whoever is absorbed in God. This is possible only when we are free of attachment, fear and anger. When we are totally absorbed in God, then we can visualize God's presence everywhere. We have to have yearning to know God and try to understand the divinity through the qualities of God. Then the true knowledge evolves from within. People choose different paths to reach this goal. In the next verse, Bhagavaan clarifies this aspect of worship.

Ye Yadha Maam prapadyante taamsthadaiva bhajaamyaham!
Mama vartmanuvartante manushyah Paardha sarvasah !!

O Son of Prtha (Pardha)! in whatever way people approach me, I tend to reward them. People in different paths follow me.

It does not matter which ever path we choose to reach God, we should over come the obstacles. We need to show extreme passion and love towards God. We need to understand the truth that is within us. Then we will be able to see God everywhere.

OM SRI SAI RAM!
